Taylor Swift, The Life of a Showgirl: Luxury, Motherhood, and the Vibrance Behind the Curtain
Taylor Swift said something about her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl”, that stuck with me: it’s a “nod to the luxury that a showgirl puts on when she’s onstage. Meanwhile, like in the quick-change room, she’s [heaving]. Maybe that’s just me. I don’t know.”
And I thought—no, it’s not just her. That’s all of us. Especially, me.
As women, mothers, and professionals, we all live in that tension between what the world sees and what’s happening behind the curtain.
There’s a beautiful metaphor circulating on social media about modern motherhood: flamingos temporarily lose their vibrant pink color after giving birth. Motherhood asks us to give our vibrancy away—trusting it will return when the moment is right.
For me as a photographer, this is the heartbeat of my brand. The photographs I create for my clients look and feel like luxury. They are polished, elegant, radiant. But behind the lens? It’s me—sweating, catching my breath, sometimes nursing a baby in the carrier, and engaging with my client. I can still make the experience shimmer. Pouring my vibrant “pink” into them. While my feathers may fade, you best believe I’m still bejeweled.
It’s both: the luxury you see and the work it takes to get there.

Photography is its own kind of performance—an art of illusion and perspective, unfolding a beautiful and elevated scene using a tiny corner of a space, when just out of frame there is laundry on the couch or a crying baby on your back.
That duality of the Life of a Showgirl: Taylor Swift’s words mirror the tension between luxury and motherhood, what happens behind the curtain. It is what makes the experience of a photoshoot so real and so powerful. Because luxury isn’t necessarily about perfection—it’s about devotion. It’s about showing up fully, creating beauty, and holding space for women to feel like the most elevated version of themselves, even while life behind the scenes is messy and demanding.

Life of a Showgirl isn’t just the spotlight—it’s the sweat and the energy poured into every step behind the curtain. The mental load can be heavy. But as Taylor Swift says, “You should think of your energy as if it’s expensive. As if it’s a luxury item. Not everyone can afford it.”
Your energy, your vibrancy, your “pink” is precious. How you spend it shapes the beauty you create.
